With numbers of graduates in the country rising annually and the scarce job markets, it is a clear indication that the majority of the youths are likely to be left unemployed.

Statistics have shown that the number of graduates in Kenya ranges between 15,000 -30,000 per year.

In addition, institutions are gradually admitting advanced numbers of undergraduates to pursue the various courses offered.

Every student hopes that after completing their study period, they will be able to acquire quality jobs that are going to earn them good money that will in turn raise their living standards.

The issue of unemployment has been addressed severally even in Parliamentary sittings.

Aspirants of political seats have made it their campaign tool, promising how they are going to offer employment opportunities during campaign periods.

It is high time that graduates and scholars in various institutions realistically look at things.

They should lower their employment expectations and focus more on acquiring the basic skills in their field of study.

Students who pursue technical courses are in an advantageous position since they can get adequate skills and therefore stand a better chance in the job market.

Undergraduates should focus more on acquiring the skills to avoid following the trends of their fellows and avoid wasting time after their study period looking for jobs.
