Nick Reiner, 32, the son of Rob Reiner, has been arrested and is in custody after the legendary Hollywood director and actor and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead in their Los Angeles home.
The LASD Inmate Information Center says the 32-year-old is being held for a felony-level crime. It says he was arrested at 21:15 local time on Sunday, and booked at 05:04 on Monday.
The agency involved is listed as LAPD-gang activity and his location is listed as LAPD jail division.
Police are investigating the deaths in an upmarket neighbourhood of the city as an apparent homicide.
President Donald Trump has criticised Reiner on social media, saying without evidence that the two "reportedly" died "due to the anger he caused others" with his "Trump Derangement Syndrome".
Reiner was a vocal critic of the president.
Trump’s statement comes in the wake of efforts by his own administration – and some conservatives – to punish anyone on the left who suggested the assassination of Charlie Kirk was deserved or a consequence of his at times divisive political views.
Trump, whose approval numbers have dropped substantially in recent months, is in danger of being out of step with a public that may expect – or hope for – expressions of empathy or grace from their president, even when a tragedy involves an outspoken critic.

WHO IS NICK REINER?
Nick Reiner, 32, is the middle son of the family. Rob Reiner and Michele Singer share three children together.
He has worked as a screenwriter, most notably having co-written the screenplay for the 2016 film "Being Charlie", which his father directed.
The film, about a drug-addicted teenager, was loosely based on his own addiction struggles, he told People at the time of its release.

Reiner is known for directing several iconic films, including When Harry Met Sally, This is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, Stand By Me, Misery and A Few Good Men.
Tributes have come from major figures in both Hollywood and politics, as Reiner was also a champion for liberal causes and Democratic politics.
Monty Python star Eric Idle wrote on X that he had spoken to Reiner "for over an hour" the previous night. The two first met 50 years ago, Idle said, and Reiner was "a clever, talented and very thoughtful man".
Kathy Bates, who starred in Reiner's film Misery in 1990, told NBC News in a statement that Reiner had "changed the course of my life". The late director was "a man who made films of every genre to challenge himself as an artist", and his wife Michele was a "gifted photographer", Bates said.
Fellow actor John Cusack called Reiner "a great man", while Elijah Wood said he was "horrified" by the couple's deaths.
James Woods, who was nominated for an Oscar for starring in Reiner's 1996 drama Ghosts of Mississippi, said he was "devastated by this terrible event".
Comedy star and director Ben Stiller said it was "a huge loss". Stiller said Reiner had "made some of the most formative movies for my generation", explaining: "Spinal Tap is one of the best comedies ever made - and the list goes on."
