CS Jumwa commits to back gender equality advocacy in media

Says media creates awareness and concerns on gender inequality and Gender Based Violence.

Public Service and Gender CS Aisha Jumwa has commended the Leadership Accelerator Programme and its management for empowering women in the media.

The programme also champions for the gender policy development.

Speaking on Friday during the Programme's 6th graduation ceremony which was conducted virtually, Jumwa said the Ministry was committed to support related ventures in the future.

"As a Ministry, we commit to collaborate and support such ventures in the future through our existing programmes as well as others that we could come up with collaboratively for the benefit of our men and women in the media towards advocating for gender equality not just in the media but in all sectors," she said.

The CS expressed hope that the graduates will be champions of gender equality across sectors and through their varied platforms.

Jumwa acknowledged that the programme, having its focus on women in media, was crucial as the fourth estate is an educator and creates awareness and concerns on gender inequality and Gender Based Violence.

The programme which runs for nine months had 183 graduates in the 2022 class.
