He said KDF has been equipped to the best levels to transform it into a modern force.
Uhuru said the overall terms and conditions of service for KDF have also been improved, citing the Military Veterans Act which he recently signed into law.
He was speaking at the Moi Barracks Recruits Training College (RTC) during a pass out parade. Present were Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa and Governors Jackson Mandago and Alex Tolgos.
The pass out was among Uhuru's last KDF events as he gears to hand over power after election next month. He said during his tenure he also had to make some of the most agonising decisions touching on the lives of KDF soldiers.
The President said KDF had also embraced unfamiliar roles due to their good record of delivery, citing its role in several national programmes during his tenure.
His listed the rehabilitation of the 600km of the meter gauge railway, revival of the Kenya Meet Commission, Kenya Shipyard and construction of Uhuru Gardens.
He wished well the graduands and urged them to protect sovereignty of the country."You must always be above reproach and I am confident that you will not disappoint your compatriots."
Uhuru further said the graduands joined KDF at a time of transformation and that they had undergone the basic military training to enable them serve the country diligently.
He also officially commissioned the Eldoret Regional Hospital put up by KDF and Moi Barracks.
