Nairobi City Stars registered a comfortable 2-0 win over struggling Mathare United in an entertaining Kenyan Premier League match at Ruaraka Grounds in Nairobi on Saturday.
Midfield maestro Peter Opiyo's brace early in the match separated the two sides at full-time.
Opiyo broke the deadlock in the 19th minute from a set piece taken on the edge of the box.
He should have doubled the advantage minutes later, but his spirited close range effort rattled the woodwork much to his disappointment.
Opiyo, however, pounced on a glorious opportunity on the half-hour mark and wasted no time hurling the ball into the back of the net for his brace.
The outcome inflated the confidence of City Stars who rode into the match low on confidence after registering a loss and a draw in their two preceding encounters.
Mathare United coach Ezekiel Akwana attributed their loss to a congested fixture. The sixth defeat of the season leaves them in a precarious 14th spot with seven points.
