Police disrupted an alcohol counterfeiting operation in Narok County and seized illicit drinks with an estimated street value of three million shillings.

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has disrupted an alcohol counterfeiting operation in Narok County, seizing illicit drinks with an estimated street value of three million shillings.

The operation led to the arrest of a distributor and the confiscation of hundreds of crates of spirits bearing fraudulent Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) stamps.

The seized products have been sent for laboratory analysis to determine their composition.

NACADA Chief Executive Officer, Anthony Omerikwa, said the bust followed a sustained crackdown in the county’s remote areas targeting illicit brews.

The operation also covered a border town suspected of being a conduit for uncustomed alcohol from a neighbouring country.

Omerikwa described the action as part of intensified surveillance ahead of the festive season. He added that authorities will continue to monitor and, where necessary, take action against any licensed manufacturers found to be involved in the illicit trade.

The operation highlights challenges in Narok Town, whose growing population and status as a regional transit hub make it a point of interest for counterfeiters.

Officials said the arrest and pending laboratory results are expected to strengthen enforcement efforts against the production and distribution of counterfeit alcohol, which poses risks to public health and government revenue.
