Embu Woman Representative Njoki Njeru has clarified that the vehicle involved in the Kapigazi accident was not from the presidential escort.
She said the vehicle that was involved in the accident was hers and that of former Embu deputy governor and NSSF Chair Kariuki.
“No presidential escort vehicle was involved. People are speculating and giving false information and I want to clarify that it was not the president’s car. Ignore the false claims circulating online,” she said.
Reports on social media had indicated that a presidential escort vehicle was the one involved in the accident, information that she dismissed, confirming that she had personally informed President William Ruto of the accident.
She said that she is safe and escaped the accident unharmed.
Njoki further condoled with the families of the victims who were involved in the accident and may not have made it out alive.
The accident occurred along the Embu-Meru Highway at Gakwegori-Kapingazi River.
According to reports, a boda boda rider and a pillion passenger were knocked before the vehicle rolled into the river.
President William Ruto was in the county to attend a church service at Kigari Teachers College in Embu.
The service formed part of the 35th Diocesan Anniversary celebrations and a fundraiser.
