State House on Tuesday remained
tight-lipped despite explosive allegations by former allies of the President.
Impeached Deputy President
Rigathi Gachagua on Monday
dropped more allegations that put
President William Ruto’s integrity
into question in yet another interview.
The claims came just days after
former Public Service CS Justin Muturi also railed at Ruto, terming him
as irredeemably corrupt and unfit to
be the President.
In both instances, State House is
yet to respond.
Among the claims by the former
Deputy President is that the President’s personal commercial interests
override national interests in his
dealings domestically and internationally.
Gachagua sensationally called for
international sanctions on President
Ruto, saying he was playing a huge
role in “cleaning” smuggled gold by
Rapid Support Forces to Dubai to
fund the war in Sudan.
“The International community
shouldn’t look for any other commander of RSF. The real commander of RSF is not Hemedti, it is William Ruto. The money from gold is
being cleaned through Kenya to buy
firearms,” Gachagua told KTN.
“I am available to give evidence. I
ask the international community to sanction William Ruto and the Sudan crisis will be solved. Sanctioning Hemedti is pointless.”
Gachagua further accused Ruto
of placing commercial interests
ahead of national interests in recognising Kosovo as a state.
He said Ruto has business interests with a former Kosovo president
and jointly run a five-star hotel at
the Coast.
He said senior officials from the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs approached him in confidence, expressing concerns about the President’s push to recognise Kosovo as
a state.
“A very senior officer from the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs came to
see me. They told me that internationally, it is unwise for the Kenyan
government to acknowledge or recognise Kosovo and that such recognition would create problems,” he
said.
He, however, said the President
told him off.
“Because of the President’s selfish commercial interests,
we are now in trouble with Serbia
and Russia. This is not right.”
He also accused the President of
doing gold business with M23 rebels in the DRC.
The former DP accused the President of being at the centre of the importation of the subsidised fertiliser
and benefiting from the Affordable
Housing Programme.
He said the President was involved in the sale of fertiliser donated by Russia.
Among other allegations Gachagua dropped were tribalism, corruption and deceit.
Gachagua denied he demanded
Sh10 billion from the President so
that he would resign, instead saying
it was Ruto who offered him Sh2
billion.
Despite the weight of the allegations, President Ruto is yet to respond.
His spokesperson Hussein
Mohamed did not respond to a
request for the President’s reaction.
Vocal allies of the President have
also kept off the allegations, refusing to comment publicly.
The bombshell by Gachagua follows a recent explosive interview by
former Attorney General and CS for
Public Service Justin Muturi.
In an interview on NTV, Muturi
accused the President of overseeing
corrupt dealings behind the scenes.
“He is quite a dangerous character. I think Ruto is unfit for the
position of President. I have no
bitterness; this is my honest assessment. When I watch him tell members of the Cabinet that he doesn’t
want to see corruption in his government, I always wonder because
I know the kind of person he is,”
Muturi said.
