Suspect in murder of student 'Akoko the Billionaire' arrested

Detectives based at DCI Kibra have arrested a suspect in the murder of Sospeter Osunga, alias 'Akoko the Billionaire' in an incident that occurred on November 18, 2024.

This followed a weeks-long probe following the murder of the Kirinyaga University student.

Investigations have revealed that on the fateful day, Osunga was fatally attacked by a gang of hoodlums in the Ayani area where he sustained fatal wounds on his back, believed to have been caused by a sharp object.

Following thorough investigations, three individuals were initially arrested and provided crucial information which coupled with other intelligence leads led to the apprehension of the main suspect who is set to be arraigned in court today.

Director DCI Mohamed Amin implored members of the public to embrace peace and avoid infractions that may lead to unnecessary loss of lives and disruption of peace within our neighbourhoods.

He died on November 18 morning outside a bar in Kibera slums.

This was after he had been stabbed and hacked seven times in the stomach and back of his body.

His male and female friends he was with are also nursing stab wounds after they were attacked by a mob of Bodaboda riders following a disagreement.

Police said they have recorded statements from at least five witnesses including the two friends, his mother and a friend Akoko was meeting then.

The fatal attack had nothing to do with his past work.

No arrest has been made but police said they are pursuing the Bodaboda riders behind the incident to face murder charges.

Akoko, 23, was a fourth-year student who was pursuing architecture.

On the day he died, he had called a longtime friend living in Kibera and told him he wanted to 'treat' him.

The friend said Akoko arrived in an Audi Q3 and parked it outside a club in the slums.

He was with a man and a woman. He then offered to buy drinks for all the revellers who were present.

In the process, they learned that a popular musician was playing live music in a different neighbouring club in the slum.

They decided to go there. While entering the club, a commotion ensued as a crowd followed Akoko prompting a confrontation.

The student was known for his extravagant lifestyle which he frequently showcased on platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
