Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has now revealed that there was a planned coup against President William Ruto on June 25, 2024.

According to Duale, the plotters of the coup wanted a change of regime.

He, however, did not disclose who the persons behind the alleged coup were, insisting that it was not his job.

“June 25th, there was a planned coup. There was a serious plan of a regime change,” he said on Citizen TV.

On the said date, protesters invaded Parliament Buildings, a move that forced Members of Parliament and staff to flee.

They would later on be contained by security officers.

The Interior Cabinet Secretary would weeks later reveal to the National Assembly that there was a second attempt at burning down the Parliament but it was quashed before it happened.

Duale, however, said that when he retires, he will write a book about everything but for now he is under oath not to reveal some secrets.

“When I retire I'll write a book. I'm still under oath of Cabinet collective responsibility but I have told you there was a coup and that is why of the charges on the impeachment motion were about National Security,” he said.

The Environment Cabinet Secretary also criticised Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for publicly calling out the country's Intelligence Service and its leadership.

Duale said doing such is something that has never happened and it was not a simple matter.

"There are certain institutions in our country you don't disparage or indict," the Environment Cabinet Secretary said.

“Not only the National Intelligence Service but the security organs, the Kenya Defense Forces, the Judiciary, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission but more so, the NIS that not only gives information on how to protect our country but engages with other key intelligence partners," Duale said.
