MP Namoit congratulates Askul for her nomination to Cabinet

Turkana South Member of Parliament John Namoit has congratulated Beatrice Askul for her nomination to the Cabinet by President William Ruto.

Askul was nominated to the position of Cabinet Secretary for East African Community Affairs (EAC) and Regional Development on Tuesday.

Namoit has appreciated the Orange Democratic (ODM) leadership for supporting Askul in her nomination.

“I want to express my sincere appreciation to each one of ODM leadership for buying into your position on this appointment. It wasn't easy,” MP Namoit said.

Namoit has said that Askul’s nomination by Ruto shows trust and confidence in the Turkana community.

He further said that Askul is the first woman from Turkana County to be ever nominated as a CS.

“Am deeply honored and grateful for the trust and confidence you have placed in the Turkana community by appointing Askul as the first CS woman in Turkana. It is humbling to have your support,” Namoit stated.

The party through its X handle said if approved by Parliament, Askul, a ranking member of ODM will become the first-ever woman to be appointed to the Cabinet.

Askul is a Social Scientist and a Consultant.

She has previously served as the County Executive Committee Member in charge of Water, Irrigation, Agriculture and Land Reclamation in the Turkana County Government.

If she passes vetting by the National Assembly, Moe will take over the office which was previously held by Peninah Malonza.

Malonza is among the CSs who did not make a comeback to Ruto's cabinet that was recently dismissed.

Askul has also previously served as a Director of the Rift Valley Water Services Board, Chairperson of the Technical Committee of the Valley Water Services Board, Chairperson Audit Committee of the Valley Water Services Board, Project Officer of AMREF Kenya Turkana Project and Relief Officer for the Oxfam Turkana Relief Program.

The CS Nominee has specialized skills in the development and management of community affairs, towards behavioral and social change in communities.
