Interior CS Kindiki has said that no one has the freedom to propagate hatred and division among the people of Kenya.

Speaking on Monday, Kindiki said that while Kenya has a robust democracy and freedom, no one is allowed to propagate division on any basis.

He warned that anyone who thinks they can use such avenues to divide the country in order achieve their own objectives has no space in Kenya.

“The only freedom that none of us has is the freedom to propagate hatred and division among the people of Kenya on ethnic, religious or any other basis.

“Anybody who thinks they can ascend to leadership through inciting the people of Kenya against fellow citizens of Kenya, they must know they have no space to operate in our country,” Kindiki said.

The Interior CS insisted that the government will be firm on all who try inciting the people, regardless of the political side they support.

He noted that some of these individuals hide behind political parties because they allied to the government of the day but they will not be spared.

“We'll be very firm. It doesn't matter the political persuasion. If you try the monkey business of dividing the people of Kenya, we will come for you. Whether you are supporting government or in the opposition we will come for you, it doesn't matter,” Kindiki said in Marsabit.

He was in the county for the launch of the fourth and final segment of the Kenya Vision 2030 Plan.

The Fourth Medium Term Plan (MTP IV) covers the period 2023-2027.

Kindiki further commended the media for their efforts in promoting the cohesion and integration of the country.

He said the media has also given Kenyans a platform to air their views openly and to engage government on issues that affect them.

The CS reiterated the government’s commitment to support and defend press freedom at all times.

“We will continue defending our freedom so that the people of Kenya can live in freedom and liberty… We respect press freedom as part of the democratic tradition of our country.”
