Health CS Susan Nakhumicha on Monday spearheaded a sensitisation on the Fourth Medium Term Plan (MTP IV) for the period 2023-2027.

The event took place at Kitale National Polytechnic.

Also present were PSs for the State Departments for Industrialisation and Foreign Affairs Juma Mukhwana and Korir Singolei respectively.

The event highlighted the government's commitment to achieving inclusive growth through strategic planning and international collaboration.

The MTP IV outlines a strategy aimed at revolutionising key sectors.

They include finance and production, infrastructure, social, environment and natural resources, and governance and public administration.

"Aligned with international commitments like the UN Agenda 2030 and Africa Agenda 2063, MTP IV integrates Kenya's development trajectory with global sustainable development goals," the statement said.

According to the ministry, the objectives of Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) include reducing the cost of living, eradicating hunger and creating 1.2 million new jobs annually.

Expanding the tax base, improving foreign exchange balance, and enhancing inclusive growth are other objectives.

"These objectives will be pursued through investments in agriculture, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), housing, healthcare, digital infrastructure, and the creative economy," the statement said.

By integrating these global sustainable development goals into Kenya's development trajectory, MTP IV aims to ensure that the country's growth is both inclusive and sustainable.

This strategy is designed to promote equitable development and address socio-economic disparities across the nation.

"The MTP IV plan prioritizes investment and building construction of water pans and small dams and water harvesting structures in arid and semi-arid areas," Nakhumicha said.

The MTP IV plan also promotes planting of trees through the Jaza Miti campaign to protect water towers and enhance environmental protection.

"We have also launched a nationwide drive to grow 15 billion trees by 2032 through the Jaza Miti campaign. This initiative will complement other initiatives to protect the country's water towers," she added.

"In this plan, we will implement robust initiatives to promote sustainable waste management practices and enhance pollution control measures," Nakhumicha said.

Nakhumicha also highlighted the vast infrastructural projects to be implemented during MTP IV, including the connection of electricity and internet to the public.

"During the implementation of the MTP IV period, we will construct one million affordable housing units, lay 4,600 kilometres of high voltage transmission lines, and build 37 stations to connect an additional 2.3 million Kenyans and 30,000 public institutions," she stated.

"An extra 100,000 kilometres of fiber optic cables will be laid as part of the national optic fiber backbone infrastructure programme."

The government also plans in MTP IV to make healthcare accessible by making it affordable.

Nakhumicha said access to quality and affordable healthcare remains a key priority.

She said the government will expand the social health insurance scheme focusing on the Afya Bora model targeting 10.8 million households and improving health infrastructure.
