President William Ruto is set to wrap up his four-day state visit to the US today with significant activities.

The day will commence with a historic visit to the Pentagon, where Ruto will meet with senior defence officials to discuss bilateral security cooperation.

Following this, he is scheduled to deliver an address on the steps of the Pentagon, highlighting the importance of the Kenya-US defence partnership in promoting regional stability and combating terrorism.

The Pentagon is the headquarters building of the US Department of Defense.

Here, the head of state will get a brief from senior officials on the plans in place ahead of the deployment of police to Haiti.

The US has pledged up to $200 million to the Multinational Support Security which Kenya is leading.

It has announced $59 million to cover the costs of airlifting personnel and equipment to Haiti.

In March, it pledged another $100 million to cater for deployment, preparing facilities in Haiti, reimbursements and salaries.

In October, last year, it announced plans to provide $200 million for the mission and provide helicopters and vehicles and cater for food.

The US government is also assisting Kenya in putting up a camp in Haiti for the security officers ahead of the planned deployment.

Various teams from the Department of Defense are already in Haiti to assess the situation on the ground.

“This is a very complicated mission. It is not a UN peacekeeping mission. The Department of Defense needs to set up a camp in Haiti where the police force will go,” US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman said in March.

In the afternoon, Ruto will join Vice President Kamala Harris for a luncheon, followed by a digital round table meeting.

This session is expected to focus on enhancing technological collaboration and exploring opportunities for digital innovation and investment between the two nations.

"Building on her trip to Africa in March and April 2023, Harris will speak about public and private sector efforts to increase investment in digital inclusion across Africa, and the strong partnership between the United States and Kenya on technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship," read a statement in part.

The day will conclude with Ruto participating in several high-profile interviews with both local and international media outlets.

These interviews will provide a platform for him to share insights on his administration's priorities and the outcomes of his US visit, particularly in terms of economic development, security, and technological advancement.
