The University of Nairobi council has maintained that the varsity Vice Chancellor Stephen Kiama is out on compulsory leave.

The Council Chair Amukowa Anangwe on Wednesday said Prof Kiama ought to be out on leave.

"The council wishes to inform the university community and all the concerned persons that the decision made on the 19th of April, 2024, granting Professor Stephen Kiama Gitahi leave with immediate effect, remains in force," Anangwe said.

Anangwe said the Council has resolved that Professor Ayub Njoroge Gitau shall continue to serve as the Acting Vice Chancellor, with the full authority of the Council to carry out the responsibilities entrusted to the position.

"Fresh letters authorising the performance of duties in 24 administrative positions have been issued to respective university officers as per Council resolution made on  April 19, 2024, and this was duly communicated to the university community," Anangwe said.

He said the attendant terms and conditions of service of the said officers and respective office staffing effectively remain unaltered.

" All staff transfers and movements effected in response to the aforementioned court case and contrary to the Council resolutions/directives are hereby reversed and the affected staff are directed to immediately resume previous stations and positions without any obstructions," he said.

Anangwe said the Council emphasizes that any actions, communications, or directives that contravene the resolutions or are in defiance of the Council will be considered gross misconduct and insubordination.

He said individuals found acting against Council directives will be held personally accountable and may face appropriate disciplinary action.
