A woman charged with the murder of her husband has pleaded for leniency and forgiveness.
Jenifer Nziku Wambua, who appeared before Makueni High Court Presiding Judge Teresia Matheka, said she acted on self-defense.
She said her husband, Kennedy Mutunga Muasa, came home drunk on August 4, 2019 and started a fight over food.
When Nziku asked if he brought medicine for their sick child, he started a fight, picked a kitchen knife and tried to stab her.
She tried to defend herself by grabbing the knife. During the struggle, her husband tripped and fell on the floor.
What she saw next was blood on the floor.
“I plead with the court to be merciful and forgive me. I was just trying to defend myself and my nine-month old baby from my violent husband,” Nziku said.
The incident happened at Shimo Estate, Wote Division in Makueni subcounty.
The prosecution accused Nziku of stabbing her husband to death.
A postmortem said penetration through the abdomen cavity, which perforated through the small intestines and caused severe parlor and bleeding led to Mutunga's death.
A DNA test done at the government chemist in Nairobi confirmed the blood stain on the knife as Mutunga’s.
