A police officer was Monday night killed in an accident along the Kiambu-Ruiru road, in Kiambu.
The constable of police was in the company of his colleague and they were crossing the road when he was knocked down by a speeding car.
The car did not stop after the 10 pm incident, police said.
The victim was attached to the Ruiru police station and was on patrol when the accident happened.
His colleague escaped unhurt after he hesitated to cross on noticing the speeding car approaching.
Rescuers said the deceased suffered head injuries and a fractured left leg.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Plainsview Hospital in the area.
Police said a hunt for the motorist behind the incident is ongoing.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.
Passenger killed, 15 others injured in Salama accident
Meanwhile, a passenger was killed while 15 others were injured in an accident involving a bus and truck along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway in the Salama area.
The accident happened in the Kauntandini area as the bus was racing towards Mombasa on Monday night.
Police said the driver of the bus tried to overtake another car and later swerved back to his lane causing a collision with a truck that had stalled on the road.
As a result of the impact, a male passenger died on the spot while 15 passengers suffered serious injuries.
The injured were all taken to Machakos County Referral Hospital for treatment.
Pedestrian killed by speeding matatu along Nakuru-Eldoret highway
And at the Makutano area along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway a pedestrian was killed by a speeding matatu, police said.
Police said the man aged about 55 died after he was knocked down by the speeding matatu headed for Eldoret.
He died on the spot before the body was moved to the mortuary in the Sunday night accident.
Along the Takaba-Banisa road at Burashuum area in Mandera, a rider died after his motorcycle hit a pothole.
Witnesses said the impact threw him off the motorcycle before he dropped on the road and died on the spot.
His body was removed from the scene and later handed to the family for burial on Sunday evening, police said.
