Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has said that Africa should not continue to play catch up with the rest of the world when it comes to technology.

Mudavadi who is also the Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary said Africa must be part of the World's future in terms of technology.

Dealing with where we are going, the future of technology and connectivity, I think it is important that as Africa we make sure that we are running faster enough not to be left behind,'' Mudavadi said.

"We cannot continue playing catch up."

Mudavadi made the remarks during the opening of the Connected Africa Summit 2024, at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.

The CS told President William Ruto to continue with his investments in technology to ensure that Africa is connected and never left behind.

"This is an opportune moment for your excellency to continue with the drive to make sure that Africa is well connected and we participate fully so that technology does not go ahead without Africa,'' he said.

"The second aspect of it is that we should then also learn to use what we have and make sure that the ball is always ahead so that we find it there.''

Speaking at the same event, Ruto said that he is very happy with the progress his administration has made so far in digitising at least 80 per cent of government services.

The Connected Africa Summit serves as a strategic forum to chart a course towards a digitally empowered and interconnected future for Africa.

The five-day event brings together African Heads of State, Ministers of ICT, public sector representatives, private sector leaders, academia, foreign missions and development partners.

It will address the critical challenges and opportunities within Africa’s ICT sector.
