The Institute of Certified Secretaries (ICS) has started the construction of a modern seven-storey facility that will house its newly launched Governance and Ethics Academy.

Located at its Upper Hill headquarters, the facility will also serve as a hub for a wide range of other services, including capacity building, interactive workshops, and library services, among others.

The academy will provide specialised ethics, integrity, leadership, good governance and anti-corruption training to both the public and private sector.

Construction of the facility follows last year’s ground-breaking ceremony that was presided over by National Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo.

“This project underscores the Institute’s steadfast commitment to promoting good governance, fostering professional development, and meeting the evolving needs of its members and the broader community," ICS chair Joshua Wambua said.

He said the project symbolises a renewed commitment to the Institute’s mission and a strategic shift towards sustainable growth and impact.

“The initiation of the construction is a momentous occasion for the institute and its stakeholders which signifies our commitment to advancing professional development and promoting good governance practices across all sectors,” added Wambua.

The event was officiated by the chairperson of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Bishop David Oginde, who underscored the significance of the project in the promotion of good governance and corporate leadership in Kenya and the region.

The Institute of Certified Secretaries of Kenya is a professional organisation for certified secretaries.

The Institute was established under the Certified Public Secretaries Act, Cap 534 of 1988 and is dedicated to the promotion, growth, development and regulation of the governance and corporate secretarial profession in Kenya.

A Certified Secretary is trained, examined, certified and deemed competent in several key roles and responsibilities, namely board services, governance, compliance, administration, public policy, ethics, integrity, communication & records management.

All members of the institute, currently standing at about 4,000 are trained and competent on matters of governance, corporate secretarial practice, compliance, management, administration, advisory, consultancy, corporate recovery, and insolvency.

Persons who wish to register as members are required to apply through the Registration of Certified Public Secretaries Board (RCPSB) which deals with licensing of qualified CPS graduates.

Those who desire to practice are required to obtain a practising certificate issued by RCPSB, after meeting the prerequisite requirements.
