Ensure your rent is up to date – Kenya Railways to tenants, licensees

The tenants and licensees of the Kenya Railways Assets have been urged to ensure that their rent payment is up to date.

In a notice on the My Gov issue of Tuesday, April 16, Kenya Railways said evidence of the payment should be presented to the nearest KR office in Nairobi, Nakuru, Mombasa, Kisumu and Eldoret.

A receipt should be issued thereafter.

For payments, the tenants and licencees have been advised to follow the steps below:

  • Dial USSD code *222#
  • Select make payment option
  • Enter KRC123 as the service code
  • Enter the serial number as the KRC real estate reference - One can confirm their individual serial number from the Kenya Railways offices.
  • Enter the amount then select option 1 to confirm
  • Enter your M Pesa pin. 

Additionally, Kenya Railways has cautioned against encroachment on the railway operational corridor.

Noting that some people have settled or set up business units on the corridor, it said this is punishable by law.

"We hereby notify members of the public that encroachment on the railway operational corridor is an offence punishable by law," the notice reads in part.

The KR corridor lies along the Mombasa to Suswa Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line, Mombasa- Kisumu-Malaba Meter Gauge railway, with branch lines to Nakuru-Kisumu, Voi-Taveta, Nairobi-Nanyuki, Gilgil- Nyahururu, Kisumu- Butere,  Eldiret- Kitale, Konza- Magadi and railway sidings.
