Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has vowed firm action against security officers he said are abetting the sale of illicit brews in Lumuruti, Laikipia County.

The DP termed the move by some security officers to ignore President William Ruto's order on illicit alcohol as unfortunate.

He said that while most of the security officers have done a tremendous job of restoring security in Laikipia County, a few officers in Lumuruti have been unable to eliminate illicit brews and drugs.

“Most of our officers are doing a good job, the regional team has done a good job but a few officers are letting us down," Gachagua said.

“We will go behind the tent with them so that we sort out that problem once and for all."

Gachagua said it was unfortunate that some officers had disregarded the president’s order against selling illicit brews in their areas of jurisdiction.

“We have fought alcohol and illicit brews, there are people here in Lumuruti who are failing us," the DP said before inviting the president.

“Those people are not doing what they are supposed to do; I want to say while my boss is here that we will not accept that.’’

The DP has become the face of the government's fight against the sale of illicit brews and drugs across the country.

He has been holding security meetings with various stakeholders across the country including security officers to map out how to eliminate the menace.
