WhatsApp says it’s back online after global outage

Meta mobile app WhatsApp has announced that it is back online after a global outage on Wednesday afternoon. 

WhatsApp announced its return on Thursday morning 

"And we’re back. Happy chatting!," the Meta app said on X.com. 

The messaging platform had noted that some people were experiencing issues with the app from Wednesday afternoon. 

WhatsApp then promised to restore normal functioning soon.

"We know some people are experiencing issues right now, we're working on getting things back to 100 per cent for everyone as quickly as possible," WhatsApp said. 

The app is used by more than 2 billion people across the world.  

Other than WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook were also reported to have gone offline briefly on Wednesday night minutes past 9 pm.

Users reported their inability to receive messages in what appeared to be a major outage affecting many people across the globe.

Tracking website Down Detector showed a vast number of reports of outages were made minutes past 9 pm.

Users in several countries reported outages in all three major Meta apps.

Samples of concerns raised by users indicated that many were unable to detect whether they were online or even send messages.

The issue however lasted briefly as users reported normalcy shortly after.
