Two security guards killed in robbery incident in Kakamega

The attackers broke into a shop and stole assorted goods

Two night guards were brutally killed during an attack at a market in Matungu, Kakamega County.

This happened on March 31 night in a robbery at the local market, police said.

The two security guards were attacked and murdered and their bodies were left at Koyonzo Market. 

Police officers rushed to the scene and found two security guards John Nyabola aged 62 years and Humphrey Munyomi aged 55 years lying dead with deep cuts on the head, hands, and legs and in a pool of blood.

The security officers said a shop was broken into and assorted goods of unknown value were stolen therein after the murder of the two.

The bodies were moved to Bungoma County Referral Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem.

No arrest has been made so far. Police said a team had been sent to the area to pursue the attackers.

The team said they are investigating murder and robbery with violence in the attack.

Elsewhere police are looking for a suspect behind the fatal stabbing of a 39-year-old woman in Majengo slums, Nairobi.

The incident happened Monday morning. The assailant is said to be a wanted suspect in the area.

He is said to have stabbed and killed his sister-in-law identified as Mercy Kinyua, 39.

Mercy made a living through washing clothes in homes in the nearby estates, her friends and neighbours said.

Police said the suspect and his wife had an argument prompting the deceased to intervene.

It was then that she was stabbed in the face and bled to death.

The assailant escaped the scene and is yet to be arrested, police said.

Police were alerted and visited the scene and collected the body to the mortuary.

A hunt on the suspect is ongoing, police said.

Elsewhere in Daraja Mbili, Kisii county, the body of an unknown man aged about 25 years was discovered in a ditch along Industrial Area Road.

Police said the body had visible injuries on the neck a sign of strangulation, and bruises on the nose and the chin.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy. No arrest has been made in connection with the March 31 incident.

Police said they are looking for the suspected killers to establish the motive.
