John Matara, the man accused of killing socialite Starlet Wahu in a South B short-term homestay in Nairobi will today be presented before a Ruiru magistrate for ruling on his bond request in another case where he is charged with rape and robbery with violence.

Matara who had pleaded not guilty to the charges before magistrate Charles Mwaniki was detained at the Ruiru police station.

The charge sheet showed he was armed with a kitchen knife when he accosted his victim and robbed her of Sh88,300.

The State had opposed his bond application saying Matara was still under investigation over similar offences and could interfere with witnesses if released from custody.

"Further, in the circumstances of the case, the acts the accused person allegedly committed, if he is granted bond terms, he will not only jump bail but the case will be interfered with," the prosecutor said.

Matara's lawyer argued the offence with which his client was charged was bailable.

"My humble submission is that the offence before you is bailable and that the state's conditions are mere suspicions. He will religiously attend court the way he has done today," he said.

Magistrate Mwaniki will deliver his ruling today.
