Interior Cabinet Secretary Kindiki Kithure’s diary reveals a world consumed by duty.
Every hour is claimed by urgent demands of governance.
From dawn till dusk, and far beyond, his normal day is characterized by a series of meetings, briefings, and crisis management.
As usual, he starts by meeting top security bosses for a brief before addressing security matters of a particular region.
By Friday 5pm, the CS had traversed a total of six counties, all packed with a series of activities.
His tour started at Tharaka Nithi at 7am where he inspected the usual parade before having a meeting with the county commissioner at his office.
He later addressed a meeting of security and intelligence officers alongside the National government administration officers.
“At Kathwana, held an early morning engagement forum with security heads in Tharaka Nithi County to agree on targets for this priority program and other law enforcement priorities and the coordination of National Government programs,” he said.
He also announced that so far, 11,000 litres of illicit alcohol and 300 rolls of bhang have been netted and 126 persons arrested and arraigned.
The CS later proceeded to Embu where he had a similar forum.
During a meeting with security chiefs, Kindiki said they agreed on an enforcement plan for the anti-illicit alcohol and anti-narcotics measures.
“We also adopted measures on reduction of crime, maintenance of law and order and the monitoring and evaluation as well as schedule for reporting,” he stated.
At the county, he disclosed, 116 persons have been arrested and prosecuted with 296 premises selling illegal brews shut and 270 rolls of bhang seized.
In Kitui, Kindiki announced that every Commander of a security agency will be held accountable individually for security breaches within their jurisdictions.
This, he said, exempts cases where it is demonstrable that they had taken reasonable measures to avert or mitigate the breach.
At the county, it emerged that 258 suspects have been arrested and arraigned in the ongoing crackdown on illicit brews while 15kgs of bhang were seized and 22 non-compliant pharmacies and 19 non-compliant agrovets shut.
In Machakos, he pointed out that some of the criminal gangs terrorizing the Nairobi’s Eastlands area are using the suburbs of Tala Township to plan their criminal activities.
He also directed officers to roll back the rising cases of drug peddling, sale and consumption of narcotic drugs and shisha, and child pornography in the environs of Tala in Matungulu Sub County.
On the national against illicit brews, 4,800 alcoholic outlets operating within the prohibited proximity to basic learning institutions have been closed and licenses revoked.
“Over 9,500 unlicensed alcoholic drinks selling premises have been shut and 12 distilleries of toxic brews destroyed to disable further production,” he stated.
Kindiki then returned to Nairobi’s Njiru area.
Here, he pointed out that the occasional criminal activity in Kasarani, Njiru, Mathare and Kibra Sub-Counties as well as the CBD remain a key priority for eradication.
He wrapped his tours with a visit to Kajiado where he directed his officers to "comprehensively" tackle land fraud, illegal encroachment on private and public land as well as contraband trade and trafficking in persons and narcotic drugs through the official and illegal entry points.
