A pedestrian died after being hit by a falling stone from a construction site in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening and involved a 19-year-old named Abdikaff Mohamed.

The victim was walking on Second Avenue, Seventh Street when the stone fell, striking him on the head.

He was rushed to Care Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police later visited the scene and ordered construction to be halted pending an investigation into the incident.

The body was moved to the local mosque pending autopsy, preservation, and burial.

Officials from the county government, National Construction Authority, and police are currently investigating the tragedy.

This incident adds to a series of similar accidents at construction sites in the city. Police note that most victims are construction workers who lack required protection gear.

Despite the high rate of incidents, no recent action has been taken against contractors, despite calls for adherence to safety laws.

Two months ago, another construction worker died after being struck by a falling stone at a site in the Spring Valley area of Nairobi.

The victim was among other workers when a block fell from the fourth floor of a building, hitting him in the head.
