On the radar: Return of housing levy – Ruto to assent Bill, Tuesday

President William Ruto will on Tuesday morning assent to the Affordable Housing Bill at State House, Nairobi.

The event was scheduled for Monday at 8 am but it has now been pushed to Tuesday.

This comes after Parliament on Thursday last week passed the legislation that will anchor the affordable housing programme in law.

The controversial Bill was vehemently opposed by Azimio lawmakers.

Once it becomes law, Kenyans will from this month pay the mandatory housing levy.

The 1.5 per cent tax from both the employer and the employee will take effect at the end of the month.

The courts abolished the levy in January but the Kenya Kwanza administration quickly moved to have it back through legislation.

Kalonzo Musyoka tour Kisii 

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka will be in Kisii on Monday, for a series of activities.

He is scheduled to hold a breakfast meeting with leaders from the county and later on pay a courtesy call to Governor Simba Arati at his office.

He will later on hold a series of rallies in Kisii town, and Keroka town.

This is part of his ongoing efforts to step up his presidential campaign ahead of 2027. 

Just like other parties, Kalonzo has also used such opportunities to launch member recruitment drives.

Energy CS to launch NuPEA 2023-2027 strategic plan

Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir will on Monday launch the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NuPEA) 2023-2027 strategic plan at Kawi complex, South C. from 7 am.

The Strategic Plan outlines a new roadmap towards attaining the country’s dream of adding nuclear to the electricity generation mix in the country.

The country is banking on nuclear energy in its efforts to deliver clean, affordable, stable and sustainable sources of electricity.
