A 31-year-old man was arrested in connection with the alleged murder of his brother in a village in Makueni County.
The incident happened in the Kimani/Syiluni village Kiini sub-location on Wednesday afternoon.
Police said the suspect also seriously injured his 75-year-old mother in the scuffle.
The suspect had reportedly differed with his brother Dominic Kyalo Kioko aged 27 over an unknown reason and attacked him with a sharp object, police said.
Police said they found the body of Kioko lying on the shamba about 100 metres from their homestead with several deep cuts on his head and right hand.
The deceased’s face was covered with blood with deep cuts.
It was further established that the deceased's mother tried to restrain the suspect from the attack and in the process she sustained a deep cut on her right-hand finger.
She raised an alarm and villagers responded and restrained the suspect.
Police said a sharp blood-stained panga and a blood-stained grey khaki trouser were recovered from the suspect’s bedroom.
The body was removed to the Mbooni West subcounty hospital morgue awaiting a postmortem examination.
The motive of the attack was not immediately known.
Elsewhere in Maua, Meru County, a man was arrested in the murder of a 45-year-old mentally unstable man.
The victim was accused of stealing a mobile phone before he was assaulted by his relatives.
Police visited the scene and established Henry Mbithi was assaulted by relatives on suspicion of stealing a phone.
His body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.
A relative was arrested over the murder probe that happened on March 5, police said.
Several sticks with bloodstains used as weapons were recovered at the scene.
There has been a rise in murder cases in the country amid calls for parties to solve their differences amicably.
