Chiloba lands envoy job after CA ouster

Former Communication Authority Director General Ezra Chiloba has been handed a new lifeline after President William Ruto nominated him Consul General of the Kenyan mission in Los Angeles, USA.

Ruto announced the nomination on March 8, 2024, alongside other appointments to senior ranks of the public service to serve as ambassadors, high commissioners, and permanent representatives in Kenya’s embassies/high commissions and missions abroad.

Chiloba is expected to go through the requisite parliamentary approval process.

Ruto has already transmitted the nominations of high commissioners, ambassadors and permanent representatives to the National Assembly for consideration and approval by Parliament in fulfilment of the legal requirements set out under the law.

He then resigned as Director General of the Communication Authority of Kenya on October 19, 2023.

Before his stint at CA, Chiloba served as the CEO of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

He has over 15 years in public-sector management, including five years at the United Nations Development Programme in Kenya, Kenya National Commission on Human Rights and Oxfam Novib.

Chiloba pursued a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi, doubling up with a Master of Arts in Public Policy from Central European University (CEU), and later enrolled for a PhD in Political Science at the University of Nairobi.

He was named Top 40 Under 40 men by the Business Daily in 2015.
