Omwanza Ombati elected as Law Society male rep to JSC

Lawyer Omwanza Ombati has been elected as the male representative of the Law Society of Kenya to the Judicial Service Commission.

Taking to his X account after his win, Ombati thanked the society's members for voting him for the position.

"I want to sincerely thank the esteemed members of the Law Society of Kenya for bestowing upon me the greatest honour and trust of my professional life to serve them at the JSC Kenya," he said.

At the same time, he vowed to commit to serving the legal fraternity with honour and dignity in terms of the constitutional and all relevant laws.

"For the members of the legal profession, I promise to be your voice at the Judicial Service Commission and truly represent you and have your voice heard clearly and loudly," he said.

The lawyer congratulated the outgoing LSK president Eric Theuri, who was also vying for the position of the JSC mae representative.

"I secondly congratulate my brother Eric Theuri for giving me a great run in the campaign. Ultimately, this was a competition of ideas and members accepted the most compelling plan. I wish the President well," he said.

Conceding, Theuri congratulated him and observed that his win and those of the others were a win for the Law Society.

"I would also like to thank all my supporters, donors, and friends for your immense support. I have received incredible support from all of you," he added.

"I take this opportunity to congratulate all the winners and those who offered themselves for the various positions. In the end, the Law Society won."

Ombati had 3,357 votes against Theuri's 3,292 votes.

Other contestants Ishmael Nyaribo and Professor Mwabile, received 95 and 629 votes respectively.

During campaigns, Ombati who was elected on Thursday vowed to improve the operations of the JSC if elected.

He made clear his plan to make the Commission more open and develop an environment for the practice of law.

“The JSC is not merely an institution. It is the oil that runs the engines of our daily legal endeavours through critical policy interventions," he noted

Ombati also said he was committed to identifying the issues that threaten practice space to the legal profession and drawing a way forward in terms of sorting the issues.
