Former Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter now says that he is not bitter about losing the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket, in the August 2022 elections.

In an undated video seen by the Star, Keter alleged that he was sure that he won the party ticket but was denied by the party leadership.

He explained that he now believes that UDA was right to deny him the ticket because then he believed in what they said they'd, but that is no longer the case.

"Naambiwanga saa zingine ati sijui ulikasirikia. Unajua mimi nilisimama kiti ya Ubunge Nandi Hills na nikashinda UDA nominations na nikanyimwa (I get told that I am angry. You know I vied for the Nandi Hills parliamentary seat and won UDA nominations but I was denied) so people think that I'm bitter, I'm not."

"I know I won and they know I won but I have believed that they were right to deny me to be a candidate of UDA because then I went and registered as a member because I believed what they said."

He added that his joining UDA was because they promised to help poor Kenyans.

"Wakati walisema watasaidia mama mboga, boda boda, wakabeba wheelbarrow nikaingia uko," he said.

This loosely translates to, "When they said they would help mama mboga, boda bodas, and they pushed wheelbarrows, I joined them."

Keter said that the people President William Ruto promised to help during the campaigns are the ones who are suffering the most.

He said the problem with the President is that he can sweet-talk anyone into agreeing to anything.

"And you know our president he is a very good marketer. He can market anything including Taptengelei finya computer ati pesa itoke na mnaamini. Watu wa bodaboda and mama mboga are the ones suffering the most sahii."

Keter served as Nandi Hills MP for two terms until 2022.

After he lost the UDA ticket, he went on to vie as an independent candidate but lost to Bernard Kitur.

He has since become one of the greatest critics of President William Ruto from his Rift Valley backyard.
