Kisii Senator Richard Onyoka has lauded President William Ruto saying he deserves credit for supporting Raila's bid for the AU chairperson job.

This follows their meet-up with the Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Monday evening.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, Onyonka said the Kenyan political class needs to realise they can’t thrive in hate.

“I would like to give President William Ruto the credit he deserves; this is what statesmanship is all about. In politics is not about the winner taking it all. This is a good move politically,” he said.

“We always forget that Ruto, Raila, Kalonzo, Musalia and Wetangula have been together for the last 30 years and at some point they pull themselves together to do things for the interest of the country.”

He added that Raila's bid for the AU job is also a good opportunity to allow Kalonzo to start organising himself to run for the presidential seat in 2027.

His remarks came after Ruto, his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni and ODM leader Raila Odinga held talks in Uganda on Monday.

The photos were shared showing the three discussing as they walked in a field on their social media page.

Ruto and Raila also had their moments captured as they engaged in talks

In a statement after the meeting, Raila said he is grateful for President William Ruto's full support as he goes for the African Union Commission job.

The Azimio leader said the joint meeting with Museveni and President Ruto, was at the invitation of the Ugandan president and they also discussed other issues related to the strengthening of East African integration.

"At the urging of President Yoweri Museveni, we also discussed my candidacy for Chairperson of the African Union Commission. I am very grateful to President Museveni for strongly endorsing my candidacy and to President Ruto for fully backing it," Raila said on X.

The Azimio leader's visit to Uganda is likely set to the mark at the beginning of his numerous tours to African countries to seek support for the African Union chairperson's seat.

Raila on February 15 declared interest in the AU chairmanship seat saying he was ready for the role.
