Police officers and administrators implicated in causing the death of any Kenyan due to their actions or negligence in combating illicit alcohol will face dismissal and prosecution, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has warned.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki on Monday stated that those found guilty won’t just be transferred but will be held accountable.

"As a policy, security officers and administrators enabling the manufacture, sale and use of killer brews and hard drugs, through their action and/or inaction will not be transferred to other jurisdictions," he said

"They will be sacked immediately and prosecuted in accordance with the law," Kindiki added.

The CS made his remarks at the Mombasa ASK Showground during the Illicit Alcohol And Drug Eradication Conference.

Going further, Kindiki asserted that the government will reward diligent officers who combat the menace with state honours and promotions.

“Diligent and patriotic Security and National Government Administration officers who unearth, thwart, and apprehend persons behind the trade in illicit alcohol and narcotic drugs will be recognised and appreciated by the Government through promotion and award of State honours,’ he said.

Kindiki also emphasized the need to crack down on narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances as a national security challenge and a threat to Kenya’s survival.”

Last week, the former Tharaka Nithi Senator vowed to put an end to illicit brew deaths.

Speaking in Kirinyaga on Friday, the CS said illicit brew deaths should and will not happen again in Kirinyaga or any other part of the country.

"This should not happen again in Kirinyaga and any other part of Kenya. We can't have a mass burial again to bury our loved ones," Kindiki said

Kindiki said there is no going back on the nationwide war against illicit brew and abuse of drugs and other substances.

He said revellers at illicit brew joints will not be spared either in the war against the menace.

Speaking at the same conference, Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi advocated for the arrest of drug barons in the Coastal regions.

Kingi questioned why the drug barons have not been arrested if they are well known.

The Senate Speaker revealed that to eradicate the drug menace at the coast, the enforcement method should be changed.

"There is nothing new we have been told today. Hii shida tunajua. But the biggest weakness that has been there towards eradicating the menace is at the enforcement level," Kingi said.

"If we know these drug dealers how come they have not been apprehended?" he posed.

Speaker Kingi noted that it was high time that the government walked the talk and went for the 'big boys'.
