We have to change Kenya and if in doubt just be patient and watch this space, President William Ruto has said.

Ruto spoke during the Joint National Executive Retreat and Parliamentary Group consultative meeting, in Naivasha, Nakuru county on Monday.

“I know sometimes many get discouraged and anxious and some panic. People believe in Kenya we must not be the ones who will not believe in Kenya," he said.

Ruto told MPs that they are the government in Parliament, so they should use their numbers and position to transform the country.

The President encouraged MPs to honour their social contract with the people even as he lauded them for doing a good job in the legislation process.

"You are the government. Don't point at other governments, you are the government," he said.

Ruto's sentiments come in as the Opposition continues to pile pressure on his administration to ease the cost of living, reduce taxes, become more inclusive and fulfil their manifesto.

The Head of State said Kenya Kwanza has numbers both in Parliament and Senate and that will assist in changing the country.

“I know there is a temptation to do what politicians do and that is to focus on the next election. Let us do what leaders should do by focusing on the transformation of Kenya,” he said.

“We are where we are as a country because we have always made politically correct convenient decisions and the transformation of a country requires men and women who can confront situations and look at what is right not what is popular.”

Ruto said he would lead from the front to change Kenya, he also said he is a very proud leader of the team.

He said he appreciates the contribution of every person.

“We have a historic opportunity to change Kenya. Many may not appreciate it because some of us are first-timers and others do not have experience. I am among the oldest people here in terms of being around politics and leadership,” he said.

"We have a moment in history to unlock Kenya's potential and take this country to the next level. Let us not waste this moment. We have a manifesto that I believe if implemented it can transform Kenya."

The retreat brought together MPs and senators from all affiliate parties within the Kenya Kwanza Coalition.

The cabinet retreat is aimed at evaluating the performance of ministries and state offices.

Also to be discussed are the recommendations of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) Report.

It will be the second one after the one held last year in Nanyuki. Principal secretaries will also attend the meeting.
