Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) have called for a review of the criteria used to determine beneficiaries of the Inua Jamii programme.

A landscape analysis report on disability indicated that PWDs were of the view that the review would meet the needs of the most vulnerable persons with disabilities.

Principal Secretary, State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizens Affairs Joseph Motari noted that the study seeks to lay the foundation for future programme collaboration and contribute to achieving service delivery for persons with disabilities.

He added that the study also seeks to provide insights on disability policies and emerging challenges.

Montari noted that his office, in collaboration with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, empowers individuals with disabilities to effectively participate in socio-economic development through inclusive training and skill development.

“We aim to create awareness and educate the public on the rights, needs, and opportunities of persons with disabilities, while also enhancing social protection for this community,” the PS said during the launch of the report on Tuesday.

He added that they have carried out a scale-up activity to onboard additional beneficiaries under the Inua Jamii programme.

“Under the PWSD – CT programme, about 137,000 potential beneficiaries were listed pending onboarding to the payroll,” he stated.

Motari urged them to apply through e-citizen to be among those who will benefit from the Inua Jamii initiative.

Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi was among the leaders who graced the launch of the report.

"I am excited for the launch of the landscape analysis report on disability. This will guide policymakers to create programs that empower PWDs to achieve true social inclusion for all, let's work together to break down the barriers," Wanyonyi said.

According to the report, 64 per cent of the counties don't have enough funds to support PWDs and 55 per cent don't have set laws with inclusion of PWDs.
