A suspected thug was shot dead in a botched robbery incident in Nairobi’s Dandora area and a pistol found on him, police said.

The suspect was part of a gang who were on Thursday morning attacking and robbing pedestrians when police were alerted.

Police said the incident happened at about 5 am in Dandora Phase Four.

The officers said a team on patrol responded to a scene where a robbery was happening prompting the shooting that left one dead.

Nairobi police commander Adamson Bungei said two other suspects managed to escape.

He said a homemade pistol with two bullets and three mobile phones were found on the slain suspect and that the hunt for those who escaped is ongoing.

During the robbery, two people were injured by the suspects.

One of the victims identified one of the mobile phones recovered from the slain suspect.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

Police say they have enhanced operations in the city to address the incidents of crime in general.

Meanwhile, police are looking for a gang that attacked and robbed a British national in Ololua Estate, Langata.

The woman was getting into her compound when four men who had covered their faces struck.

They hit and injured her forehead with a blunt object before they robbed her of two Samsung laptops, gold jewellery, a diamond wedding ring, and a camera.

The woman was rushed to hospital and attended to in fair condition.

Police said they are looking for the suspects behind the attack.
