Kenya, US sign Sh198m grant agreement to enhance public procurement sector

Kenya has entered into a grant agreement with the US securing approximately Sh198 million in technical assistance in a major step towards strengthening the country’s public procurement.

The grant is facilitated by the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA).

It aims at fortifying the value for money approach in public procurement through the development of a comprehensive procurement manual and guide for suppliers.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u and US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman inked the deal at an event in Nairobi on Tuesday.

Speaking after the ceremony, Ndung’u expressed optimism about the transformative impact of the grant as he lauded the US for the partnership.

He emphasized that the financial infusion would enable smarter, long-term investments, ultimately resulting in substantial savings for the government.

“The US is a key partner in trade and investment in Kenya. The two countries will continue fostering the long standing strengthened cooperation that exists,” he said.

The USTDA's role in focusing on sectors vital to economic growth in partner countries aligns seamlessly with this grant's objective.

"This collaboration not only enhances Kenya's procurement practices but also solidifies the robust economic ties between the two countries, setting the stage for continued cooperation and mutual benefit."
