A policeman suffered injury as he tried to separate two fighting women in the Ruaraka area on Monday.
Residents had called the police officer to come in and stop the fighting between the two women.
The officer rushed to the scene and separated the duo, however, while at the scene, a man reported to be the husband to one of the ladies emerged and hit one of the officers with a blunt object on the face.
The officer suffered injuries on the mouth and nose. He was rushed to Radiant Hospital where he was treated and discharged in fair condition.
The assailant escaped after the incident and efforts to apprehend him are ongoing, police said.
Meanwhile, a suspected thug was Monday night shot dead by police in a botched robbery in the Ruaraka area, Nairobi.
Police said the deceased was in the company of five others and were carrying stolen items when a confrontation broke out on Monday night.
The security officers said they challenged the group to stop but they escaped towards the Kariadudu area.
This prompted the officers to pursue the gang and cornered one who attempted to injure the officer with a panga.
According to police, this prompted the officers to shoot one dead.
A set of woofers wrapped in a green carry bag, a blood-stained panga with a red handle and an unserviceable Motorola pocket phone were recovered from the suspect.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.
The hunt for the other suspects who escaped is ongoing, police said.
