Kisii University's Kimutai tipped to retain three titles at JOOUST

Kelvin Kimutai is favourite to retain the National Universities 10,000, 5, 000m and 3, 000m titles during the KUSA Western Conference Games to be held at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) this weekend. 

Other games that will feature during the two-day event are 3x3 basketball, darts, and tug of war for both men and women.

He represented Kenya at the FISU World University Games held in China last year, where he finished fourth.

“I’m ready to defend my titles at JOOSUT. I have been training at home since December. However, I only want to go for the 5, 000 and 10, 000m races. We are also going for the team titles,” he revealed. 

Kisii University will, however, face stiff competition from perennial rivals Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).

Kisii University’s games tutor David Obungu said: “Last year at nationals, we clinched the men’s overall title. We want to continue with our dominance even at the regional level. We are also eyeing the 3x3 basketball titles alongside the men’s darts title,” said Obungu.

KUSA Western Conference secretary Abraham Ong’ong’a said hosts JOOUST, MMUST, Kisii, Maseno, Tom Mboya, Kabianga, Kibabii, Great Lakes University of Kenya, and Kaimosi University have confirmed participation.

“We expect a highly competitive two-day event,” said Ong’ong’a of Kabianga University.
