Former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta on Saturday attended the memorial service of the late Mzee Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

Mzee Jaramogi passed on  January 20, 1994 in  Kisumu.

The service took place at St. Stephen's Cathedral Church in Kisumu.

Margaret was seen sitting beside Siaya Governor James Orengo during the service.

The leaders were seated in the front row as they followed the memorial service.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga who is Jaramogi's son scheduled the memorial service to celebrate and honour his legacy and place in Kenya’s history.

Raila invited renowned scholars, pan-Africanists, thought leaders and journalists to speak at the event.

Jaramogi Ajuma Oginga Odinga was a prominent political figure and one of the leaders of Kenya’s freedom fighters who helped secure the country’s independence.

He was born in October 1911.

He was appointed minister for home affairs in 1963, and in 1964 became vice president under founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

A fierce Kenyatta critic, Jaramogi served as VP from December 12, 1964, to April 14, 1966, when he resigned and he remained a vocal opposition leader until his death.
