Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has appealed to Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen to upgrade the road linking Narok and Tanzania to bitumen standards.

He further wants a bridge constructed along the road at Loita in Narok South, to ease movement whenever it rains to avoid disruption of activities.

Following a Friday night spent in the cold, the Senator faced challenging conditions as a section of the road became flooded due to the ongoing heavy rains.

Accompanied by other residents, Olekina found himself spending the night on the road, patiently waiting for the elevated water levels to recede before they could safely proceed.

Explaining the situation, he mentioned that he was on a county-wide tour to inspect various ongoing projects and assess their progress levels.

“Good morning my friend Murkomen, I am appealing to you again, I am sure you woke up in a beautiful house somewhere either in Elgeyo Marakwet or in the beautiful Karen, this is where I spend the night with all these beautiful Kenyans that you can see here, with all those vehicles that you can see there,” Olekina said in a video.

“This road used to be rural but today the road has been taken over by Kenha. I am appealing to you even before upgrading this road into bitumen standards I am appealing to you to consider putting a big bridge here so that during these rains we don’t end up spending a night again in the wilderness,” he added.

He said the road that connects Narok County and Tanzania also passes through the home of the current environment CS Soipan Tuya.

Rains have continued to pound several parts of the country this week, leading to flash floods which have rendered roads impassable.

The Kenya Meteorological Department on Friday said that rains will be expected in Western, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Central Highlands including Nairobi, Southeastern and South Coast.

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry weather outlook for January 2024, indicates that Highlands East of the Rift Valley and Central Kenya are likely to experience occasional rainfall with some breaks during the month.
