State Department for Housing and Urban Development Administration Secretary Hiram Kahiro emphasised the government's commitment to ensuring provision and access to decent and affordable housing for all Kenyans within the coast region.

Kahiro underscored the government's dedication to the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda that aims to empower those at the bottom of the economic pyramid.

"We recognise the need to promote socio-economic development in this region and across the country, passing on the benefits of affordable housing to individuals, families and the community at large," he added.

The redeveloped Changamwe estate will feature schools, a sports complex, access to clean water, electricity, sanitation, and other integrated amenities.

The coast region's ambitious housing plan involves the construction of a substantial number of new units across various neighbourhoods.

The plan will not only address the immediate housing crisis but also establish a foundation for a sustainable future that enhances the quality of life for all residents and provides a blueprint for other communities facing similar challenges.
