Moi High School Kabarak Principal Elisheba Cheruiyot has attributed the good results in KCSE to teamwork and dedication among teachers and students.

Speaking on KTN News, Cheruiyot said the teachers' and students' spirit of teamwork and the desire to do well has motivated them to keep going.

The school emerged top in the just announced 2023 KCSE results with a mean score of 10.43, an upward move from 10.13 the previous year.

Cheruiyot said there is serious competition among classes and houses not just in terms of academic performance but in other areas such as cleanliness and co-curricular activities.

The ranking is done at the end of every exam and term with the best class and the teacher getting a trip to a destination of their choice for consistent performance.

“If a class is continuously number one from term one to term three there is a trip for the class and the teachers and then they also compete at house level. They compete in exams and other areas like cleanliness and co-curricular then there is a ranking,” Cheruiyot said.

“If a house is consistently number one to the end of the year they earn a trip to a place of their choice so that is what keeps them motivated and they want their classes to be the best at the end of the day.”

She has further noted that running the school has not been challenging as it is established on strong Christian values, but has acknowledged that running such a big school requires a lot of strategies in management.

For instance, each section of the school has a head of department with each stream having a class teacher.

There is then an overall form coordinator who coordinates all the stream class teachers to ensure there is no gap in running the school.

The school has three deputies who take care of administrative, academic and girls’ issues.

“We have someone who takes care of the girls because we know the girls require some close attention so we have a deputy in charge of the girls,” Cheruiyot noted.

She further noted that the guidance and counselling department ensures that all Form Ones are well-equipped with knowledge about the school's operations and how to conduct themselves while in the school.

Other schools that topped in 2023 KCSE include Mudasa Academy from Vihiga, Kapsabet Boys High School, Light Academy Mombasa, Strathmore School, Kenya High School, Chemelil Sugar Academy, Alliance Girls High School and Kisima Mixed Secondary School.
