Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua has accused the President William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza government of lying to Kenyans that they were going to lower the cost of living.

Wambua said that, to the detriment of Kenyans, the cost of living has been unbearable for the entire Kenyan population.

He said that under the Ruto administration, the cost of basic commodities like unga, bread, cooking oil, and fuel was way beyond the reach of many Kenyans.

“The Kenya Kwanza regime took over the reins of power on a lie that it would be a mwanainchi government.”

“As it were, this regime has not only turned its back on the people; it is eating its own children,” said Wambua.

Wambua was speaking in Mombasa on Sunday afternoon as he delivered his four-point agenda end-of-year media address titled ‘For the Love of My Motherland’.

The Senate Deputy Minority Leader said that several negotiation attempts by the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance to truthfully address the cost of living puzzle have been thwarted with impunity by the KK administration.

The first was during the aborted bipartisan talks and later at the revived national dialogue committee.

Wambua said that Azimio la Umoja – OKA leaders have clearly demonstrated their determination to lessen the burden of life weighing heavily on the shoulders of ordinary Kenyans.

“We have organised and actively participated in nation-wide demonstrations guided by provisions of Article 37 of the constitution of Kenya, the same constitution that president Ruto swore to defend and protect."

“We have held countrywide rallies and town hall meetings to mount pressure on the KK regime t walk its talk and reduce the cost of living. We have come to the negotiating table with clean, open hands, seeking relief for Kenyans," he said.

“All these attempts have fallen on the deaf ears of an administration that does not care at all about the suffering of Kenyans,” Wambua said.

The senator also accused the international community of allegedly failing to help the cause of ordinary Kenyan citizens.

“The big brothers who in yesteryear stood in the gap for the ordinary citizens against the excesses of previous governments are today either looking the other way or overdoing each other in singing praises to the Ruto administration,” he said.

Senator Wambua said that in the Kenyan case, as citizens scream for help, the international community, especially representatives of the United Kingdom and United States of America governments in Kenya, are busy giving a thumbs-up gesture to President Ruto and his administration.

This, he said, was very ironic, as the president himself once complained about the incompetence of his top government officials.

The foreign governments and their representatives, Wambua said, have a right to choose how to behave in a situation that Kenyans find themselves in.

“They can choose to be indifferent, to be partners in the oppression, or to be comrades in the resistance. Whatever choices the foreign governments make, Kenyans must remain vigilant to uphold their sovereignty,” he said.

He reiterated that the next phase of picketing against the high cost of living will be unstoppable, and no amount of threats from the government or police brutality will stop Kenyans from stepping out to the streets and villages to demand relief from the cost of living.
