Decomposing body of woman found in Nairobi River in suspected murder

The body was rotting at the time it was discovered, police said.

Police in Nairobi are investigating the murder of a woman whose body was found floating in the Nairobi River.

The body was found in the Gitare Marigu area, Dandora by locals after it had been swept there.

Police visited the scene and retrieved the body of a deceased woman who is believed to be about 23.

Police said the body had started to decompose and that there was a stab wound on her chest.

It is suspected that she was murdered elsewhere and dumped where the body was found.

She did not have any documents with her at the time of the discovery, police said.

The motive of the murder is yet to be known so far, police added a probe had been opened on the same.

Cases of discovery of bodies at the river have been on the rise in the past months amid an ongoing probe.

Police say some of the victims were murdered and others drowned following heavy rains in the city.

The cases are pending under probe and no arrest has been made so far.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei asked those whose kin are missing to visit the City Mortuary to help police in solving the cases.

Meanwhile, police are investigating the murder of a 65-year-old man whose body was found at his gate in Nyakach, Kisumu County

The deceased identified as Douglas Malo Okeyo had gone to check on a disturbance at his gate when he was attacked by unknown people, police said.

It is suspected the gang wanted to gain entry into the compound when they found the gate closed.

This alerted Okeyo who woke up and went to check on the same in the December 18 morning tragedy.

Police who visited the scene said he had been attacked with sharp objects.

There is nothing that was stolen from his house after the murder.

The motive was not immediately established. The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and further probe.
