The Meteorological Department of Kenya in its subsequent update has stated rainfall is expected to continue over several parts of the country.
In the next five days, parts of the Western region, South-eastern lowlands, Lake Victoria Basin, and Central highlands including the Nairobi region, and the Coastal region will receive rainfall.
"Few areas in the North-eastern and North-western regions are also likely to receive light to moderate rainfall during the period. Sunny and dry conditions are likely to prevail over most parts of the country towards the end of the forecast period," the statement read.
Further, isolated storms and heavy rainfall are likely to occur over a few areas of the Highlands East (Central Highlands) and West of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin.
"Strong easterly winds of more than 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected over Turkana County."
Heavy rainfall was experienced in Nairobi and its environs early Thursday morning, causing floods on roads.
In a statement on Thursday, the national emergency and disaster response team said it is closely monitoring El Niño floods in five counties.
The Emergency department said it is monitoring Taita Taveta, Narok, Migori, Homa Bay, and Siaya counties.
“This is due to the current forecast of heavy rainfall and isolated storms in these regions,” it said.
However, it noted that floodwaters are gradually receding in Lamu, Tana River, and Garissa counties, with no new cases reported concerning the displacement of people.
The department said all affected counties continue to receive crucial relief supplies.
