City lawyer Ndegwa Njiiru has said he plans to contact Arizona University over the genuinety of the graduation ceremony that took place over the weekend.

Njiiru said he seeks to know whether the University authorized Digital Strategist Dennis Itumbi to preside over the graduation ceremony.

The lawyer spoke on Monday during an interview with KTN.

"I intend to contact Arizona University to verify if Dennis Itumbi had the authority to preside over the graduation ceremony held on December 9," Njiiru said.

This comes after President William Ruto on Saturday presented certificates to graduates who had completed free online courses at Arizona State University.

Ruto called on Kenyans who are yet to take advantage of the Arizona online scholarships to do so.

Speaking during the Youth Connekt Africa Summit at KICC, Ruto congratulated a group of young individuals who completed their studies and received certificates.

He acknowledged that his announcement during the previous year's Jamhuri Day celebrations may have seemed unreal and expressed gratitude to those who embraced the challenge by enrolling in educational programs.

“I remember announcing during Jamhuri day last year, it didn’t look real then but today we have evidence that it is reality, we have graduates here today, graduating with certificates,” Ruto said.

“To those of you who have not experienced this chance the chance is still open, the address is still the same, get online and improve your careers.”

Other dignitaries present at the event were Council of Governors chairperson Anne Waiguru, President William Ruto, Sports CS Ababu Namwamba and Second Lady Dorcas Rigathi at KICC

During the Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium on December 12, 2022, Ruto announced the offering of complimentary online courses from Arizona State University’s Thunderbird School of Global Management to all attendees.

The program's objective, as stated by President Ruto, is to position Kenya as a global and regional talent hub by providing citizens with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the global economy.
