Detectives are investigating the murder of an elderly man whose body was found stuffed in a sack and dumped into the main Nairobi sewer line.

The body was discovered at the sewerage screen bars after it had been swept to the Ruai area.

Police visited the scene and retrieved the body. It was established the body had visible injuries on the left side of the head.

It had been stuffed into a sack after a possible murder, police said.

The motive of the murder is yet to be known so far, police said.

The body was moved to the City mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

Police said the man estimated to be aged 75 was killed elsewhere and the body was dumped into the sewer line before it was swept to the scene.

Some murder victims are thrown into the sewer line and the bodies are swept to the screening area.

The sewerage usually empties into Ruai for treatment.

The body lay there for two days with locals thinking he was sleeping.

It was until Thursday that a neighbour of the house went to check and established the man was dead.

Police who visited the scene said the man aged about 30 was dead and there was blood oozing from his nose.

The cause of the death is yet to be known so far.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.
