Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has cautioned Kenyans and investors  to be cautious of conmen (washwash).

Speaking in Eldoret on Saturday, Gachagua however said, even though the government was dealing with the conmen, every Kenyan should be responsible and keen to ensure they are not conned.

"Hatuezi tengeneza sheria ya kuondoa washwash na conmen, ni watu wajichunge na kujua ya kwamba yote ambayo inapatikana kwa urahisi sana si kweli. You know, something that is too good to be true," he said.

This loosely translates to: We cannot make laws to deal with washwash and conmen. Instead, people should be careful and know that anything that comes so easily is not good.

"We want to ask our people to be careful with conmen and other people who take advantage of them," Gachagua said.

"There is nothing easy you cannot get through hard work. Everything good will come through hard work so when people come to cheat you they can double and triple your money, why can't they triple theirs to start with?

The DP also called on athletes and all Kenyans to be careful and to live honest and decent lives.

"Invest in ways that are honest and straight. Don't try to look for shortcuts in life because you will not get anywhere," Gachagua said.

"That is something we keep talking to our people."
