Police are investigating the death by suicide of a police constable at an office in Mandera border police post, Mandera County

The body of constable Ahmed Mohamed Ibrahim was Wednesday, November 29 afternoon discovered behind a latrine block within the compound.

His body was found in a sitting position with a bullet wound under his chin and had exited the left ear.

It is suspected the officer shot himself using his AK47 rifle that was found next to the body.

Ibrahim was among the officers attached to the KRA team to help with various enforcement issues in the area.

The motive of the incident is yet to be known.

The rifle had 29 bullets at that time. There was also a spent cartridge and two full magazines each loaded with 30 bullets.

This indicated he spent one cartridge in ending his life, police said.

It is not clear when the officer died. Police moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.

A team of detectives was set up to investigate the suicide, which they termed tragic arguing the officer never showed signs of stress.

The body was later released to the family for burial as per Islamic rites, police said.
